The bullsnake, also known as a gopher snake, is often mistaken for a rattlesnake due to its appearance and the fact that it may shake its tail when threatened. However, it has a narrow rounded head as opposed to the flat triangular head of a rattlesnake. Also, it has no rattle. The bullsnake is an excellent rodent hunter. It is active from early spring to mid-fall and hibernates undercover during the colder months. Interestingly, they may share a den with other snakes including those of other species.
