Join the Santa Fe National Forest and PEEC for a trail work day on Clean Up Los Alamos Day, Saturday, April 24 from 9 AM to 2 PM. There will be trail maintenance jobs for all ages and U.S. Forest Service experts will be on site to ensure safety and provide instructions. We’ll stay in small groups to adhere to current state health orders. The location of the work is planned for Quemazon Trail and Los Alamos Canyon Trail, but is subject to change. Participants will park at the Quemazon Nature Trail Trailhead at 9:00 AM, pick up tools, receive instructions, and hike up the Quemazon Trail to the trail work location (about 2 miles, one-way, easy hike).

Our goals will include tread work to improve the trail base. We need volunteers who can rake and dig!

Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy boots, and a hat. Bring a face covering, water, snacks, lunch, eye protection, and work gloves. Hard hats, tools, some extra pairs of gloves, and good company will be provided. We will have some tools to lend, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer (loppers and hand saws will be helpful). Pre-registration is required to volunteer for this project.

Addressing COVID-19: PEEC is dedicated to the health and safety of our staff, volunteers, partners, and program participants. We are following the recommendations from New Mexico Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Association for Nature Center Administrators to develop COVID-Safe practices for our programs. By keeping group sizes small, wearing face coverings, and maintaining physical distance, we aim to avoid spreading the virus. During registration, you will be asked to read and agree to a waiver statement. This includes details about participant health, so please read the waiver carefully.

Additionally, Santa Fe National Forest has implemented COVID-19 protocols for their volunteer service projects. Click here to download and review the document before arriving.

Admission: Free.
