Stop by the Los Alamos Nature Center to meet a critter, learn about our gardens, take a star tour, and more! These are our weekly or biweekly programs. All events are dependent on volunteer availability.
Meet one of our naturalists. Learn about our local wildlife and plants and explore our skies in the planetarium. All Nature Up Close events are free, but they are dependent on volunteer availability.
Reptiles: Mondays, 11 – 11:30 AM
Come learn about the animals that call the nature center home and the care they receive, or ask questions about our animal exhibits with a member of the critter team.
Birds: Wednesdays, 10 AM – 12 PM
Every Wednesday our bird expert Robert Walker will be in the Observation Room to talk about birds. Bring your questions, and enjoy the view!
Sky Show: Wednesdays, 3 PM
Join one of our astronomers for an open house in the planetarium every Wednesday at 3 PM. They will give a 15-minute sky show and then answer questions and take requests from attendees!
Gardens: Thursdays, 10 AM – 12 PM
Every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon, one of our gardening experts, Natali Steinberg or Selvi Viswanathan, will be at the nature center to answer your questions about our three raised gardens and gardening with native and water-wise plants. If you have ever wanted to have a beautiful, pollinator-friendly, low-water yard or garden, stop by and talk to our garden experts.
Start the week off by playing outside! Meets every Monday from 10 – 11 AM (except holidays) and provides an opportunity for toddlers, preschoolers, and their caregivers to come to the nature center and explore the natural world with PEEC’s educators. Each Playtime features outdoor play, sensory exploration, and activities focusing on a theme in nature. Come and join the fun outside with other local families! Free – no registration required.
Weather Policy: On Mondays when LAPS has a weather-related delay or cancellation, Nature Playtime is canceled. On other days, please dress for the weather! We will be outside year-round.
