Join Chick Keller and Akkana Peck for a discussion of the summer solstice and to discover the answers to your solstice-related questions. This year's summer solstice is happening on Sunday, June 20. Our presenters will answer your questions and explore the following topics:

  • What is the solstice, really, and why does it not always happen on the same day?
  • Why are the longest day, the earliest sunrise, the latest sunset, and the solstice all on different days?
  • How does it relate to the motion of the sun in the sky?
  • How and why did ancient cultures measure and celebrate the solstice?
  • Where are some good places, both in the Los Alamos area and farther afield, to see ancient solstice markers?
  • And more!

We are offering pay-what-you-can pricing for our online talks. Want to help more? Become a PEEC member today!
