NASA has designated 2024 as the Heliophysics Big Year. A piece of this is the NASA Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) program that will launch in 2025.  IMAP is designed to study the heliosphere, a bubble-like region in space carved out by the solar wind and containing the Sun and all of the planets.  The edge of the heliosphere, called the interstellar boundary, is where our solar system ends and the rest of the galaxy begins.  Despite being so far away, the interstellar boundary protects life on Earth by shielding us from the damaging radiation of galactic cosmic rays.  One of the reasons we want to study this region is so we can better understand how it does this. Participants in this SFE will explore the science and engineering of building the probe with a variety of fun, hands-on activities.

Summer Family Evenings will take place on Wednesdays in June and July. These events will start at 6 PM and provide fun for the whole family.

Thanks to the Del Norte LOV Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Del Norte Credit Union, for sponsoring Summer Family Evenings in 2024.

Admission: $0/member family, $5/non-member family. Admission is paid at the door.
