On October 10, 2025 from 1-3 PM, PEECnic, our annual membership meeting to which the community is invited to come, will be held as an opportunity for members to vote for the Pajarito Environmental Education Center’s 2026 Board of Directors. Learn more about the prospective board members and current board members seeking re-election below.
PEEC Board of Directors consists of seven to eleven individuals elected by the general membership. Board members are elected to two-year terms and may serve up to three consecutive terms. Officers are elected by the Board.
The Board of Directors unanimously recommends that you vote FOR the election of each of the nominees below.
Jenifer Malek
Prospective Board Member
Jenifer grew up in northwestern Montana, looking at Glacier National Park every day. From an early age, she was horse-obsessed and spent her childhood at the barn, camping, fly fishing, or skiing Big Mountain. She attended Carroll College in Montana, where earning a BA in Anthrozoology—the study of the human-nonhuman animal bond—with a minor in Biology. She then pursued an MS in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, which led her to a rewarding career in recruiting and human resources. Jenifer and her family moved to Los Alamos in July for her husband’s postdoctoral appointment and immediately felt at home amongst the ponderosas. Rooted in 4-H and a history of service with various agricultural associations, Jenifer is eager to support PEEC and the Los Alamos community.
Joe Granville
Prospective Board Member
Originally from Buffalo, New York, Joe and his wife have lived in New Mexico for nearly 25 years. They appreciate living in Los Alamos for all the great outdoor activities: downhill and cross country skiing, hiking and biking. Their son has enjoyed many of the camps offered by PEEC over the years. The family recognizes how unique a community asset the Los Alamos Nature Center is. Joe is retired after decades of working in transportation, kitchen and bath design and most recently designing and selling residential and commercial solar. Working in the renewable energy sector was highly rewarding as it aligned with Joe’s personal values of promoting green energy, respecting our Earth through action and actively trying to make our community an even greater place for his son to grow up in. Joe thinks that having the opportunity to serve our community as a member of the PEEC board is a tremendous honor.
Kristen Dors
Current Board Member
Kristen Dors was raised in New Hampshire and spent her childhood exploring in the neighborhood woods and on trips to the beach. Kristen’s appreciation for the environment continued in college at the University of New Hampshire where she earned a BS in Environmental Science and an MS in Natural Resources from the University of Connecticut. Kristen joined the US Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC in and continued her career with the USEPA when she arrived in Los Alamos in July 1989 with her husband Eric for his Postdoctoral Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory. While raising their family (3 boys), Kristen worked in private consulting for 16 years. Kristen more recently is working doing environmental compliance for the Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration. Kristen currently serves on the Risk Management Committee. Kristen enjoys time with her family, friends, and dog. She is working on improving her golf game and learning to fly fish. Kristen joined the Board in October 2024.
Bonnie Klamm
Current Board Member
Bonnie grew up on Whidbey Island, Washington, where the ocean was her backyard and sparked her lifelong love of wildlife and curiosity about the natural world. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Earth and Planetary Science from the University of New Mexico and a PhD in Chemistry from Florida State University. In 2019, she returned to New Mexico to work as a chemist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In addition to volunteering with PEEC, Bonnie volunteers at the New Mexico Wildlife Center and helps with rattlesnake location efforts during the summer. In her spare time she enjoys running, fossil hunting, and rockhounding. Bonnie began volunteering with PEEC in the summer of 2021. She regularly supports PEEC events, including Earth Day, Bear Fest, and the PEEC-a-boo trick or treat downtown. Bonnie currently serves as PEEC Board President and Chair of the Executive Committee, and also serves on the Nominating, Fundraising, and Programs Committees. On Friday mornings, you can often find her greeting guests at the docent desk. Bonnie joined the Board in October 2022.
Ed Santiago
Current Board Member
Puerto Rico is known for its spectacular beaches. Ed Santiago, orthogonally inclined from an early age, always preferred its mountains. One late-twentieth-century day, on a backpacking trip in the Jemez Mountains, he got a funny sensation: this… feels… like… home. A few short years later, it was. His drift into PEEC’s orbit was at first gradual, through friends and classes and Earth Days, and has grown more stable over time. Ed volunteers with critter care and at PEEC events; he keeps track of exhibit automations (lights, environmental monitoring); and he serves on the Policy and Strategic Planning committees. Ed joined the Board in October 2022.
