The new Los Alamos Nature Center opens Wednesday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. in a special ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Los Alamos County Council, PEEC, and the Art in Public Places Board. Once the ribbon is cut, the center will open to the public with its new hours:
Monday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Tuesday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Thursday CLOSED
Friday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Sunday 1:00. – 4:00 p.m.

Are there plans to have a solar power and water collection at the nature center?
Hello and thank you for your comment! With regard to solar power, you can see the fittings for the panels on the roof of the planetarium. There was no room in the County’s budget this time to install the solar panels, but the great news is that it’s all set to add them at some point in the future. Water collection is happening already. The art sculpture in front of the entrance is not just beautiful, it’s functional too. Rain water comes off the roof, runs down through the sculpture, and into a grate in the ground. From there the water is funneled out to the garden for landscape irrigation!
