PEEC Welcomes New Board Members and Announces 2024-2025 Leadership

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is excited to announce the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors: Kristen Dors and Robin Gurule. These dedicated individuals bring diverse expertise and a shared passion for connecting people to nature, further strengthening PEEC’s mission as the heart of environmental education in Northern New Mexico.

PEEC is also pleased to recognize its 2024-2025 Executive Board of Directors, a group of exceptional leaders guiding the organization into the future:

Meet the Executive Board of Directors

● Shelly Wiemann, Board President
Shelly Wiemann was raised in North Dakota, where her passion for nature began during summers on Lake of the Woods in Northern Minnesota and Ontario, Canada. Shelly has lived in Los Alamos for over seven years, enjoying activities such as hiking, skiing, and swimming. With a background in psychology and archaeology, Shelly also serves as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER Professional and is the founder of Wiemann Wealth. Her commitment to environmental stewardship is reflected in her volunteer work with Bandelier National Monument and other conservation programs. Shelly joined the PEEC Board in November 2020.
● Bonnie Klamm, Vice President
Growing up on Whidbey Island, WA, Bonnie Klamm developed a deep love for wildlife and the natural world. Bonnie holds a bachelor’s degree in Earth and Planetary Science from the University of New Mexico and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Florida State University. Currently working at Los Alamos National Laboratory, she also enjoys rock hounding and fossil collecting. Bonnie began volunteering with PEEC in 2021 and joined the Board in October 2022.
● Robin Gurule, Treasurer
Robin, a retired CPA, combines her professional experience with a love of nature cultivated through years of birding, hiking, and rafting. She has been an active community volunteer, including serving as treasurer for the Folk Music and Dance Society Board. Robin’s enthusiasm for PEEC’s mission aligns with her commitment to environmental education and stewardship.
● Janet Griego, Secretary
Janet Griego, originally from Dixon, NM, has a deep appreciation for nature instilled by her father through camping and hiking trips. After a successful career as a pathologist and medical director, Janet retired and became a dedicated community volunteer, including at PEEC. She enjoys running, gardening, and baking. Janet has been a PEEC Board member since October 2021.

Introducing PEEC’s Newest Board Members

● Kristen Dors
Kristen brings decades of environmental expertise, having worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and private consulting firms. With a BS in Environmental Science and an MS in Natural Resources, Kristen’s dedication to preserving nature has been a lifelong pursuit. A Los Alamos resident since 1989, she looks forward to supporting PEEC’s educational programs and fostering connections between the community and the natural world.
● Robin Gurule, Board Treasurer
Robin also joins the Board as Treasurer, bringing her financial expertise and love for the outdoors. Her background in realistic bird carving, accounting, and nonprofit leadership aligns perfectly with PEEC’s mission.

PEEC looks forward to an exciting year ahead under the guidance of its talented and dedicated board. Together, the board and staff will continue to foster a love of nature and environmental responsibility throughout Northern New Mexico.
