Dive into the fascinating world of wildlife tracking and connect with nature like never before. The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is thrilled to host “Tracking Wildlife on the Pajarito Plateau” on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM MT at the Los Alamos Nature Center, located at 2600 Canyon Rd, Los Alamos, NM.
Led by certified tracker and nature educator Ann Hunkins, this interactive workshop will guide participants in uncovering the hidden stories of the landscape. From identifying animal tracks and scat to understanding gait patterns and track morphology, attendees will gain practical tools to observe and interpret wildlife signs in their natural environment. No prior experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to explore!
Participants will enjoy:
- Hands-on wildlife track identification.
- Insight into animal behavior, movement, and natural history.
- Tips for identifying signs like tree markings and scat.
- The opportunity to deepen their connection to the Southwest’s unique ecosystems.
Please note: This program involves walking over uneven ground. Participants should wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring water.
About the Presenter:
Ann Hunkins, based in Santa Fe, NM, is an accomplished tracking and nature educator. She earned her Track & Sign Specialist certification from the Certified Wildlife Trackers Association in 2023 and holds a Level III in Trailing from 2022. Ann has taught wildlife tracking across the Southwest, inspiring participants to discover nature’s hidden stories.
