Bee City is pleased to share this online showcase including a small selection of bee, wasp, and fly photos from Richard Skolnik, captured in his yard in White Rock. A selection of his nature photos will be on display at the Los Alamos Nature Center, hosted by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) from August 14th through September 31, 2026. Richard Skolnik is an international development and global health specialist. He worked 25 years at the World Bank, retiring as the Director for Health for the South Asia Region. Richard later taught global health at The George Washington University and Yale and was the Executive Director of a Harvard AIDS Treatment program for three countries in Africa. Richard is the author of Global Health 101, Fourth Edition and the Instructor for the Yale/Coursera Essentials of Global Health.
Richard and his family have engaged in considerable adventure travel and several years ago Richard began to more seriously photograph wildlife during this travel. He then began to photograph wildlife, especially birds, during his morning walks in White Rock and Los Alamos and when visiting his son’s family in Phoenix. Later, collaborating with the Bee City Coordinator at the PEEC, Richard began to take photos of native pollinators.
Richard has now developed an extensive portfolio of bird photos from the US, Costa Rica, Iceland and insect photos from Los Alamos County. He has also established a photography website and store, and is donating 25% of the store proceeds to the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC):
In addition, the Pajarito Environmental Education Center will display and have on sale ten of Richard’s photos of birds, insects, and mammals from August 14th to September 31st. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds of the sale will also be donated to the PEEC.
